What is Conjunction?
A conjunction is a word that joins two words, phrases or clauses in a sentence. And, but, so, although, as if, so that, because, till, when, either, either take it or leave it, neither, as so, nor, before are some examples of conjunction.
وہ الفاظ جو لفظوں کو یا جملوں کو ایک دوسرے سے ملاتے ہیں انہیں اردو میں حروف عطف اور انگریز ی میں کن جنکشن کہتے ہیں۔
Conjunction Examples
He is neither intelligent nor hardworking.
وہ نہ تو ذہین ہے نہ محنتی۔
Although he is poor yet he is honest.
اگرچہ وہ غریب ہے لیکن ایماندار ہے۔
He is not as old as I.
اسکی عمر اتنی نہیں جتنی میری ہے۔
I eat bread and butter for breakfast.
میں ناشتے میں روٹی اور مکھن کھاتا ہوں۔
I will go shopping or I will go for camping.
میں شاپنگ کرنے جاؤں گا یا پھر کیمپنگ کرنے جاؤں گا۔
As you sow, so shall you reap.
جیسا کرو گے ویسا بھرو گے۔

Types of Conjunction
There are three type of conjunction.
انگریزی میں کن جنکشن کی تین قسمیں ہیں۔
1 – Coordinating Conjunction
2 – Subordinating Conjunction
3 – Correlative Conjunction
1 – Coordinating Conjunction
A coordinating conjunction connects two words, phrases or clauses that are grammatically equal.
For, And, Nor, But, or, Yet, so are called “FANBOYS”
They always come between the words or clauses they join.
Examples
Mudasar and Ali went upstairs.
مدثر اور علی اوپر گئے۔
I don’t like pizza, burger and sandwich.
میں پیزا برگر اور سینڈ وچ پسند نہیں کرتا۔
Ali must be in the room or on the roof.
علی کمرے میں ہو گا یا پھر چھت پر ہوگا۔
We all are very tired, for we had stayed up all night.
ہم سب بہت تھکے ہوئے تھے کیوںکہ ہم ساری رات جاگئے تھے۔
I went to shop but it was close.
میں دوکان پر گیا لیکن وہ بند تھی۔
I was hungry so I ate a banana.
مجھے بھوگ لگی تھی اس لئے میں نے کیلا کھایا۔
2 – Subordinating Conjunction
A subordinating conjunction joins a subordinate (dependent) clause to a main clause (independent).
After, As, Because, Before, Till, Until, As soon as, By the time, Only if, If, That etc…
Examples
You will not succeed unless you work hard.
آپ تب تک کامیاب نہیں ہوگئے جب تک آپ سخت محنت نہیں کرو گئے۔
After having breakfast I start my work.
ناشتہ کرنے کے بعد میں اپنا کام شروع کرتا ہوں۔
Ali will leave as soon as Hasan arrives.
علی نکل جائے گا جیسے ہی حسن آتا ہے۔
I will tell you only if you promise not tell anyone.
میں صرف تمکو تب بتاؤں گا اگر تم وعدہ کرہ کہ کسی اور سے نہیں کہو گئے۔
She is the girl whom i met yesterday.
یہ وہ لڑکی ہے جس سے میں کل ملا تھا۔
She failed the test because she didn’t study.
وہ ٹیسٹ میں فیل ہوگئی کیونکہ اس نے پڑھائی نہیں کی تھی۔
He always come here before he goes to school.
سکول جانے سے پہلے وہ ہمیشہ یہاں آتا ہے۔
3 – Correlative Conjunction
A correlative conjunction join words, phrases or clauses that carry equal importance in a sentence. They work in pairs.
Either-or, neither-nor, not only- but also, both-end, whether-or etc …
Examples
I am not only a teacher but also a trainer.
میں صرف ایک استاد ہی نہیں بکہ ٹرینر بھی ہوں۔
I don’t know whether he is here or there.
مجھے نہیں پتا وہ یہاں ہے یا وہاں ہے۔
Either come or go.
یا تو آؤ یا جاؤ
Both my brother and my father are teachers.
میرا بھائی اور والد دوںو ں استاد ہیں۔
I ate both baryani and salad.
میں نے بریانی اور سلاد دونوں کھائے۔
